Community Legal Education

South East Community Legal Service provides targeted legal education to the general public, community groups and service providers.

We can design legal seminars and workshops that cater for your particular needs.  Contact our office or complete our online form if you are interested in arranging legal education for your organisation.

Previous seminars include:

2011: Julian Burnside presented "Human Rights in Times of Stress".  Julian Burnside is a prominent, Melbourne-based barrister, human rights and refugee advocate and author.  This seminar was attended by community service providers, volunteers and the general public, and was described as inspirational, engaging and brilliant.

2010: Fair Work Act Seminar.  A seminar aimed at the general public to demystify the new workplace relations systems and provide valuable information on how the changes will affect both employees and employers.

2009: The Festival of the Ombudsman.  Guest speakers from five Ombudsman services - Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, Commonwealth Ombudsman, South Australian Ombudsman, Workplace Ombudsman and the Credit Industry Ombudsman - presented information to community service providers working with disadvantaged community members.  Attendees were informed about the mechanisms available and procedures for resolving disputes.

2008: Debt and Disadvantage.  A workshop for community service providers covering debt management, payday lenders, consumer credit and bankruptcy.  Speakers included the Australian Competition and Consumers Commission, Office of Consumer and Business Affairs, Australian Securities and Investments Commission, and Insolvency and Trustee Service Australia.
